The foundation stone for the Delhi Meerut Rapid Rail Project was laid by PM Narendra Modi Ji in March 2019, and construction of the same also began in June 2019. On 5th January 2025, the corridor was extended to New Ashok Nagar, and after that the operational length become 55 km.
The Meerut Delhi Rapid Rail route is 82.15 km long, of the entire route 68.03 km (42.27 mi) will be elevated, 14.12 km will be underground, and 1.45 km will be at grade for connections to two depots to be located at Duhai and Modipuram.
