On March 8, 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Meerut Metro project by laying the foundation stone, alongside the Delhi-Meerut RRTS project. Construction for both projects began in June of the same year. Both projects are now scheduled to be completed and operational by the end of 2025, or earlier.
