Ganga Expressway

The Ganga Expressway is India’s second-longest access-controlled expressway and one of Uttar Pradesh’s most significant infrastructure projects. Developed by UPEIDA, the expressway is designed to improve connectivity between Western and Eastern Uttar Pradesh while boosting trade, tourism, logistics, and industrial development across the state.

The operational Phase 1 stretches 594 km from Bijauli village in Meerut district to Judapur Dandu village in Prayagraj district, passing through 12 districts of Uttar Pradesh. Inaugurated on 29 April 2026, the six-lane expressway (expandable to eight lanes) has reduced the travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj to around 6 hours, providing a faster and safer alternative to existing highways.

The Uttar Pradesh Government has also proposed Phase 2 extensions to further expand the corridor. These include the Meerut–Haridwar extension in the west and the Prayagraj–Ballia extension in the east. While Phase 1 is fully operational, the proposed extensions are currently in the planning and pre-construction stages, with surveys and preparatory work underway.
