Meerut to Prayagraj Ganga Expressway

The Ganga Expressway is a 1,047 km long under-construction expressway in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The Ganga Expressway project is being constructed in two phases. Out of the 1,047 km length, the 594 km (Meerut to Prayagraj) route has been approved, and for the rest of the length of 453 km, the UP Government decided to extend the project.

Phase 1 of Ganga Expressway (Meerut to Prayagraj)- Phase 1 will connect Bijauli Village on NH-34 in the Meerut district with Jadapur Dandu Village on NH-19 in Prayagraj via Sarai Katiyan Village on NH-27 in Kanpur.

Phase 1 of Ganga Expressway (Meerut to Haridwar and Prayagraj to Balia)- The UP Government decided to extend the project on both sides of phase 1, which means from Meerut to Haridwar and from Prayagraj to Ballia. As of February 2021, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Phase 2 has not yet been prepared.

Meerut to Prayagraj Ganga Expressway Construction

The UPEIDA has divided the construction work of the 594 km long expressway into 12 different packages. The expected project value is around Rs. 37,350 crores, including the land acquisition cost of around Rs. 9,500 crores. UP Government allocated the budget of Rs. 2057 crore in the budget of 2024-25. The list and details of the 12 packages are as follows:

Adani Enterprises has further subcontracted the civil construction work of Packages 4, 5, and 6 to HG Infra Engineering Limited. It has subcontracted Packages 7, 8, and 9 to Patel Infra Projects Limited, and similarly, it has subcontracted Packages 10, 11, and 12 to ITD Cementation India Limited.

Meerut to Prayagraj Ganga Expressway Construction Update

The foundation stone of Ganga Expressway was laid by PM Modi on 18th December 2021. In November 2021, 3 firms bid to build the expressway. In December 2021, Adani Enterprises and IRB Infrastructure won the expressway’s construction work. The construction work of the Ganga Expressway was started by Adani Enterprises in Binawar (Badaun) on 11th April.
