The Nauchandi Mela in Meerut, held annually at the Nauchandi Ground on Garh Road, boasts a rich legacy that spans several centuries. Traditionally inaugurated on the second Sunday after Holi, the fair is renowned for symbolising Hindu-Muslim unity. The inauguration begins with a ceremonial puja at the Chandi Devi Temple, followed by the offering of a chadar at the dargah of Wale Miyan—only after these rituals is the fair officially declared open.
Celebrated for its spirit of harmony, brotherhood, and cultural vibrancy, the Nauchandi Mela Meerut holds a special place in the hearts of Meerut residents, who eagerly look forward to it each year. Recognising its cultural and historical significance, the government has accorded it the status of a provincial fair. The event’s organisation alternates annually between the District Panchayat and the Municipal Corporation. This year, the responsibility for organising the fair lies with the Municipal Corporation.
