The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has achieved another milestone as the Anand Vihar Namo Bharat (Underground) Station receives the Platinum Rating from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) — the highest level of recognition under its Green Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) certification.
This honour underscores NCRTC’s steadfast commitment to sustainable, eco-friendly, and energy-efficient transport infrastructure. All major components of the Namo Bharat project—including depots, receiving substations (RSS), and stations—have been registered with IGBC, reflecting NCRTC’s mission to build a greener and cleaner urban mobility network.
Sustainability at the Core of Namo Bharat’s Vision
The IGBC certification evaluates projects across six key environmental categories: Site Planning, Water Efficiency, Energy Efficiency, Material Conservation, Indoor Environment & Comfort, and Innovation in Design & Construction. NCRTC excelled in all these areas, earning the Platinum Rating for its innovative green design and execution.
From low-carbon construction methods and energy-efficient systems to rainwater harvesting and well-ventilated interiors, every aspect of Anand Vihar Station has been designed to minimize environmental impact. The landscaping beneath the Namo Bharat viaduct further contributes to reducing the overall carbon footprint during both construction and operation phases.
NCRTC’s ambitious renewable energy strategy aims to meet 70% of its total energy requirements from green sources. Through its solar policy, the corporation plans to generate 15 MWp solar power across station and depot rooftops, with 4.7 MW already operational. Efforts are also underway to expand the use of renewable energy for traction power, further advancing NCRTC’s sustainability goals.
Driving India’s Green Mobility Revolution
The IGBC Platinum certification for Anand Vihar Namo Bharat Station symbolizes NCRTC’s leadership in sustainable urban transport and adherence to global best practices in environmental conservation.
Since its establishment in 2001, the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC)—an initiative of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)—has championed green building standards across India. The recognition of Anand Vihar Station adds another feather to NCRTC’s cap as it continues to drive the transformation of India’s transport landscape through innovation, technology, and sustainability.
