Civil construction of the foot overbridge at Sarai Kale Khan Station has been completed

The civil construction of the Foot Over Bridge (FOB) linking Sarai Kale Khan Namo Bharat Station with Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station has been completed. Spanning 280 meters, this dedicated FOB is equipped with six travelators installed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), enabling smooth and hassle-free movement for commuters interchanging between the two major transport hubs.

Barricades have been removed, and the road is now fully open to the public

Following the completion of the FOB’s construction, NCRTC has removed all barricades from the adjacent road, thereby fully reopening the route to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station for public use. To further enhance commuter convenience, the road surface has been upgraded with a new tar blacktop, improving its durability and operational life. This development is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion and improve overall safety in the high-traffic Sarai Kale Khan area.

Given the approximately 300-meter distance between the two stations, the need for a safe, accessible pedestrian connection was evident. The newly constructed FOB serves this purpose, especially benefiting women, children, elderly passengers, specially-abled individuals, and travelers carrying luggage. Previously, the lack of integrated pedestrian infrastructure forced commuters to navigate heavy traffic and unsafe road conditions, posing serious safety hazards and contributing to congestion.

The FOB directly addresses these long-standing challenges, offering a safe, efficient, and long-term solution for seamless multimodal connectivity. Sarai Kale Khan is a major interchange point in Delhi, with lakhs of daily commuters using various transport modes. The new facility ensures easier and safer transitions between the Namo Bharat system and Indian Railways.

Sarai Kale Khan Namo Bharat Station

Sarai Kale Khan station itself, one of the largest along the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor, is fast emerging as a key transport hub. It provides direct integration with Delhi Metro’s Pink Line, Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, and Veer Haqiqat Rai Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT). Construction is progressing swiftly, with finishing touches being given to the façade and roof. All 12 escalators and 4 lifts connecting the concourse to the platforms have been installed and are ready for use. Platform screen doors have also been set up, while final works are underway on the station’s five entry and exit points, each equipped with escalators and lifts.

Additionally, the 4.5 km stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar — a vital link for passengers travelling from Meerut to Delhi — is preparing for the next operational phase. Trial runs on this section began on Sunday, April 13, marking another step forward in expanding the region’s high-speed rail connectivity.
